The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) is the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders. NEDA serves as a catalyst for prevention, cures and access to quality care. Each year, NEDA helps millions of people across the country find information and appropriate treatment resources through its toll-free, live helpline, its many outreach programs, and website. In operation since 2002, Hope’s EDS is a registered charitable organization committed to helping those living with an eating disorder, and disordered eating, along with their caregivers, friends and family. Our pillars of service include providing online resources to assist with navigating the healthcase system. We offer public education and outreach to raise awareness and to help end the stigma associated with this illness. Focussing on early intervention we recently launched a workshop for adolescent girls to encourage positive body image, self care and media literacy.

The Eating Disorders Foundation of Canada was established in 1995 by President Emeritus, Dr. Robbie Campbell and is a national, not-for-profit registered charity. EDFC is committed to raising funds to support evidence based care for, research into, and increased awareness about eating disorders in Canada. Partnering with other organizations and individuals, the Eating Disorders Foundation of Canada contributes to support a stronger voice for those who suffer from eating disorders. 

Body Image coverBody Image is an international, peer-reviewed journal that publishes high-quality, scientific articles on body image and human physical appearance. Body image is a multi-faceted concept that refers to persons’ perceptions and attitudes about their own body, particularly but not exclusively its appearance. The journal invites contributions from a broad range of disciplines – psychological science, other social and behavioral sciences, and medical and health sciences. The journal publishes original research articles, brief research reports, theoretical and review papers, and science-based practitioner reports of interest.

 

 

Fat Studies: Past, Present, Futures is the third fat studies conference held in New Zealand. Speakers from around the world share fat scholarship and activism over 18-19 June, 2020 at Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand. Our keynotes are Esther Rothblum, Editor-at-Large of Fat Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Body Weight & Society, and Sonya Renee Taylor of The Body is Not an Apology. Those unable to attend in person will be welcome to register as online attendees, which will provide livestreaming of the conference and on-demand videos of the conference presentations for up to a year. Founded in 1969, NAAFA is a non-profit human rights organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for fat people. NAAFA works to eliminate discrimination based on body size and provide fat people with the tools for self-empowerment through public education, advocacy, and member support. Body Brave is a charitable organization that offers innovative treatment and support to adults struggling with eating disorders and their families. Our focus is on digital health solutions to optimize accessibility. Body Brave is working with partners across Canada to develop a cutting-edge e-platform to fill the gaps in eating disorder training and education for healthcare professionals.

 

NIED is the voice for Canadian families, caregivers and individuals who are challenged by Eating Disorders and other co-morbid and concurrent diagnoses. We help caregivers, patients and practitioners fill gaps in care through education and by highlighting better practices in prevention, health promotion and treatment. NIED is working with stakeholders across the country to address the gaps in current services, delays in treatment, lack of pan-Canadian data, and insufficient training for clinicians and healthcare professionals.

The National Eating Disorder Information Centre (NEDIC) is a registered Canadian charity that has been helping Canadians affected by eating disorders since 1985. We operate Canada’s only national toll-free helpline and instant chat program which provides support, information and referrals to individuals struggling with food and weight preoccupation issues, as well as the families, friends, and professionals who care for them. With a focus on eating disorder risk factors, NEDIC delivers prevention-focused workshops to diverse audiences and facilitates professional development through our outreach and education program. Sheena’s Place is a Toronto-based community mental health charity that supports individuals affected by eating disorders. Sheena’s Place offers a wide range of professionally-facilitated groups to individuals (ages 17+) who live with an eating disorder or disordered eating, as well as their families and friends. Rebecca Scritchfield, author of Body Kindness, and host of the Body Kindness podcast is a HAES registered dietitian and certified exercise physiologist. She offers weight inclusive individual, group, and online programs centered on well-being enhancement. Rebecca’s Body Kindness philosophy has been studied at UNC Charlotte MIND-BATCH lab – mindful self-care and depressive symptoms in pregnancy and postpartum. She primarily works with kids, chronic dieters and people in recovery from Binge Eating Disorder.
