Postdoctoral Research Fellow Position: University of British Columbia

The Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia in beautiful Vancouver, B.C., Canada is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Applicants can be either Canadian or non-Canadian citizens. The successful candidate will be employed to work primarily under the supervision of Dr. Jessica Tracy in the Emotion and Self Lab, in connection with a federally funded CIHR Operating Grant on self-conscious emotions and addictive behaviors. The position is expected to commence in September 2016, but may start earlier if preferred. Review of applications will start April 10th, 2016 and continue until the position is filled. The post is a full-time position for a minimum of one year, with the possibility for renewal up to one additional year contingent upon exemplary progress.
The post involves three main components: (1) data analysis and writing up results from a large-scale longitudinal study examining the social, emotional, personality, and nonverbal behavioral predictors of recovery from alcohol addiction; (2) designing follow-up research and beginning pilot data collection, and (3) contributing to Dr. Tracy’s overall program of research on emotions and self by leading and conducting new projects on this and related topics. The Fellow will be working in part with data collected from a sample of recovering alcholics involving the assessment of emotions (via self-report, behavioral coding, and cortisol reactivity), personality, and social behaviors, and examining effects of these predictors on a range of outcomes, including health and relapse, over time. Responsibilities include conducting data analyses, assisting in the training and mentoring of affiliated graduate and undergraduate researchers, contributing to the writing of scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and contributing to research design for new projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of research productivity and experience in social, personality, and/or health psychology, experience conducting experimental and/or longitudinal research, and a solid grasp of commonly used statistical techniques and software (e.g., SPSS or other statistical packages). Prior experience in, and/or knowledge of, research on emotions, links between social behavior and emotions, and/or addiction is highly desirable.
Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. in Psychology or a related discipline (or expect to have completed their Ph.D. defence no later than August 30th, 2016).
