  • University of Stirling, Faculty of Arts & Humanities has two PhD studentships available.  Applicants may come from any of the various subject areas of the Faculty – Communications, Media and Culture, Law, Philosophy, History, Politics, English (including Publishing Studies and Creative Writing), Languages, and Religion. The funds will extend across a two-year MPhil (or four years part-time), or three-year PhD period (six years part-time), and will cover fees at Home/EU rates and maintenance (equivalent to AHRC rates). As well as making a full research postgraduate programme application, applicants wishing to be considered for these studentships should complete the Research Postgraduate Studentship Application Form, and submit it electronically to the Graduate Studies inbox, fahgs@stir.ac.uk, no later than Wednesday 18 January 2017.
  • De Montfort University have a LARGE number of AHRC-funded PhD studentships open to UK/EU applicants within the field of Film Studies, Media and Communication. The Cinema and Television History (CATH) Research Centre undertakes a wide range of research in Film and TV, including work on Screen Industries, British and Hollywood cinema, Film Ephemera, Women and Film, and TV Drama (see below for full list), and is particularly keen to supervise projects that use archival sources. The Media Discourse Group (MDG) is concerned with the sociological and ethnographic aspects of Media consumption, and includes the study of Protest and the Media, Social Media and Community, News and Journalism, and Feminist Media Discourses. Expressions of Interest, including a CV and an outline proposal, should be sent by Friday 25 November to Professor Jason Lee at Jason.lee@dmu.ac.uk, Professor Steve Chibnall at atschib@dmu.ac.uk (CATH), and Professor Stuart Price (MDG), at sprice@dmu.ac.uk. The deadline for AHRC M3C funding applications is 16 January 2017, by which time students must have applied for a place to study and have provided two references to a university within the DTP. Information and proposal-writing workshops will be hosted on Saturday 19th November 2016.
