Gorilla Awards in Behavioural Science
Gorilla Awards in Behavioural Science offer funding support to early career researchers wanting to run a single online study to:
- Address a novel hypothesis, or
- Run a replication study online.
This is an opportunity to receive funding to address your own research question at the start of your career and to be at the forefront of a new methodology in psychology.

Eligibility and suitability
Who can apply
You can apply for a Digital Award if you are studying for a PhD, starting your career in post-doctoral research or working on a research project under a Principle Investigator. If you think you’re starting your career and that the funding would benefit you, that’s good enough!
All projects must:
- Create a protocol within Gorilla
- Collect novel data via SONA, mTurk, Prolific Academic or other recruitment channel
- Publish the results of their findings
Letter of support:
You will need a letter of support from your supervisor or PI. This should state:
- That they believe the study has merit, and should result in a publishable paper.
- That they will provide you with their support and time to conduct, write up and publish this original research.
- That the applicant has a position within their institution for the duration of this grant.
You will also need a letter of support from your host institution.
Research Questions:
Cauldron seeks to support behavioural scientists by creating online experimental platforms. Our ultimate ambition is to support the transfer of their findings into front-line evidence-tested interventions in health, wealth, happiness and education.
We will be most interested in applications that address important questions that might ultimately lead to successful interventions in our areas of interest above. This may be by creating a novel test that could be used to measure the success of an intervention, or by creating a prototype of the intervention itself.
We are also interested in applications that seek to investigate the limits of conducting perceptual and behavioural research over the internet.
What we offer:
All registrants will be given a 30 day free trials of the Gorilla Pro licence.
All applicants will have the free trial extended to the 13th March and be entitled to a 50% discount on any Gorilla licence after that.
The ten applicants that are shortlisted for interview will be entitled to a free Gorilla Code licence (worth £1,000 + VAT) for one year and help and support with the research platform. These candidates will be free to use Gorilla in other projects that they are involved with.
In addition to receiving a free Gorilla Code licence, two applicants will also receive up to £2,500, which can be used to cover the costs of participant and recruitment expenses only.
