FYI. Wellcome Trust funding for longitudinal population studies

FYI.

Wellcome Trust are introducing a new funding mechanism designed to facilitate longitudinal research.

The next call is expected to open at the end of September 2017 and close in January 2018. The following information is subject to change. The Wellcome Trust invites preliminary applications for their longitudinal population studies funding scheme. This supports longitudinal population studies, including cohorts, panel surveys and biobanks in the UK and low- and middle-income countries. The aims are to fund LPS that contribute to improving human health, encourage the integration of LPS data from a variety of sources and to work in partnership with other funders when appropriate. The scheme provides longer-term sustainable funding to existing studies, funds new studies and supports researchers who want to improve access to longitudinal population study data from health and social care records, disease registries, geocoding and social media feeds.

Funding may cover:

• ways to improve data linkage and analysis of complex data;

• regulatory or organisation changes that support data sharing;

• research that explores how multiple datasets can be linked efficiently.

Funding is worth up to £5 million for up to five years. The balance of the applications should be on core costs. Applications that include co-funding are welcomed.
